Toyota 2008 Land Cruiser

Toyota 2008 Land CruiserToyota has introduced its new 2008 Land Cruiser full-size SUV in the US with a new 5.7 L V-8 engines and transmission. Estimated fuel economy is 13 mpg city, 18 mpg highway, 15 mpg combined.

The 2008 Land Cruiser is powered by an all-new 5.7-liter V8 engine that produces 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated with ansix-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with a sequential shift mode. The SUV has a maximum towing capacity of 8,500 pounds, an increase of 2,000 pounds over the previous model.

The 2008 Land Cruiser is now endowed with the 5.7-liter double-overhead-cam V8 that was introduced in the 2007 Toyota Tundra pickup truck. Exceptionally smooth and powerful, in the Land Cruiser, it’s mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and delivers a considerable 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque.

With the newfound grunt, the Land Cruiser’s towing capacity has jumped from 6,500 to 8,500 pounds. The Land Cruiser is fitted with a total of 10 airbags – two front airbags, knee airbags for the driver and front passenger, two rows of side-impact airbags, and three-row curtain airbags.

Other safety features include active headrests for front-row occupants, a direct-sensing tire-pressure monitoring system, parking assist, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, active traction control, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist, hill-start assist control, and vehicle stability control.

Toyota will present the 2008 Land Cruiser at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney early next month, with the vehicle arriving in U.S. dealer showrooms shortly thereafter.

The 2008 Land Cruiser is Toyota’s most expensive vehicle under the“Toyota” brand. Yes, the company has more expensive vehicles under their premium “Lexus” brand, but for a Toyota, the Land Cruiser is in rarified air, with a starting price in excess of $60,000. That’s a lotta dough for a Toyota. But Toyota says it doesn’t expect to sell more than 6,000 Land Cruisers in the U.S. for 2008. Most of the vehicle sales are outside the country where it is not equipped in super luxury form as it is in our country.
