New iPod pricing for SA revealed

The new range and pricing of iPod nano, iPod touch, and iPod shuffle released in South Africa

Apple unveiled their new range of products at the iStore in Sandton. The iPod touch, iPod nano and iPod shuffle have all received feature upgrades. The products are currently being distributed around the country.

iPod nano

The new iPod nano is fitted with a variety of new features. A VGA camera with a resolution of 640×480 can take photos, and encode video using H.264 at 1.5Mbps and 30 fps. 15 video overlay effects can be applied in real time.

A new microphone captures audio and allows for applications such as voice memo. There is also a built-in speaker and a much-requested FM tuner. The live radio stream can also be paused and resumed. A pedometer has also been added, and this syncs with the Nike+ training companion.

The aesthetics have also been given an upgrade. The screen has been increased to 2.2 inches and the device is encased in polished aluminium, which comes in a eight different colours: silver, black, purple, blue, green, orange, yellow and pink.

The 8GB retails for R1 999 and the 16GB for R2 499.

iPod touch

The iPod touch range has been updated, with the processor from the iPhone 3GS added to the 32GB and new 64GB models offering improved speed. Accessibility features have also been added such as voice control, zoom, and a screen reader.

The 3GS 3.1 software has been loaded, which provides software functions such as: cut, copy, paste; search across the entire device and within applications; a landscape keyboard; remote lock for MobileMe; and anti-phishing updates.

The 32GB retails for R3 999 and the 64GB for R 5 499.

iPod shuffle

The iPod shuffle has no hardware changes but has received an aesthetic overhaul. The new 4GB model is available in stainless steel, black, pink, blue and green for R1 000.

Availability

The ZAstore has not been updated with the new product range as they are waiting for stock which they expect to be able to receive within the next 2 to 3 weeks. All prices quoted were provided by the iStore in Sandton, which currently has stock of the new 4GB shuffle and the new 16GB nano.
