Volvo announces launch of premium luxury car S80 in India
Volvo Auto India, the automobile manufacturer giant has decided to launch the upgraded version of its premium luxury sedan S80, in the Indian market. Volvo Auto India, the domestic arm of Sweden-based Volvo Car Corporation has aimed this step under its expansion plan.
The new upgraded Volvo S80 incorporates a D5 Twin-Turbo diesel engine, which is believed to deliver a high performance at low fuel consumption. Additionally, it sports many advanced technical features including Twin Turbo and Peizo high-pressure technology.
The engine is capable to generate a power of 205 horsepower and a torque of 420 Nm. The car gives a mileage of 13.1 kmpl while emits Carbon dioxide at relatively low rate of 203gms/km. The engine’s diesel particulate filter effectively controls the soot particles in the exhaust gasses and its unique emission control system helps in controlling nitrogen oxide level.
Moreover, significant changes have been made to beautify the interior of the car. Its interior is furnished with the clean surfaces, harmonious lines with extremely comfortable seats. It’s distinctiveVolvo IAQS (Interior Air Quality System) helps in checking the amount of particles, pollen, gases and certain unpleasant odours to enter the passenger area.
The chrome detailing work on the lower part of the door mouldings, exhaust, under the tail lamps and on the air intakes adds more dynamism to the look of the car.
Under the expansion plan, Volvo Auto India has planned to add five more to its dealership network of seven dealers including the dealerships in Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Chennai and Pune by the end of the December of this year.
Volvo S80 is available in nine colours at the Ex-showroom Mumbai price of Rs. 38.79 lakh at and at Ex-showroom Delhi price of Rs. 37 lakh.

Volvo has launched an updated version of its S80 for the Indian market. The new S80 will cost Rs 38.79 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai) and Rs 37 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi.
The New Volvo S80 comes with a hgh-performance, twin-turbo diesel that puts out 205 hp and 420 Nm of torque. According to Volvo, this new engine takes performance, fuel efficiency and refinement to entirely new levels.
The car has been developed entirely in-house by Volvo and is Euro 5 compliant. Volvo claims a fuel efficiency figure of 13.09 kpl. The new S80 sports dual tail pipes that lend it a sportier look. It also comes equipped with a Dolby Prologic II Dynaudio music system, rear seat entertanment, and a personal car communicator.
In terms of safety, the S80 comes with Intelligent Driver Information System, Adaptive Brake Lights, Ready Alert Brakes – which further reduce braking distance during an emergency, Dynamic Stablity Traction Control, Whplash Protection System and Side Impact Protection System.
The S80 is available in nine colour options.

At a time when the Rs1lakh Nano is making waves both in India and elswhere, a high-end bicycle costing more than twice that amount will be on display at the Auto Expo starting on 5 January 2010.
Leisure bike maker Trek will showcase `Trek Equinox TTX 9.8 SSL’ at the upcoming Auto Expo in New Delhi. The bike will be available at a market price of Rs2.4 lakh.
According to Trek distributor and Firefox Bikes’ managing director Shiv Inder Singh, as India continued to grow and develop, Firefox endeavoured to transform the traditional image of cycling into a fun and adventure sport. He added that the company was elated to introduce the model of Trek bikes and there was no better platform for showcasing it than the Auto Expo.
Firefox is an exclusive distributor in India for the products of the US-based Trek Bikes.
The company claims to have sold more than 45,000 units of the high-end bike in the Indian market since 2005.

Who needs competition? Japanese car makers are ruling the Tokyo Auto show and Suzuki surprised the onlookers on the second day with its Swift Hybrid model. Nissan GT-R was the show stealer on first day but Suzuki Swift Hybrid model had all the eyeballs on Day 2.
The Swift mainly uses its electric motor for short, low speed journeys. The petrol engine will then be used as a generator, so that as it runs it will charge the batteries. The Swift Plug-In is designed for short city trips with a petrol-driven generator in addition loading the battery of the electric engine. The battery can also be connected to an electric household socket for easy recharge. Suzuki has not yet revealed any official details about its performance, economy and fuel consumption but the car is expected to give a range of 20 km on one charge. (more…)

Porsche has launched the fastest version yet of its iconic 911 sports car.
The all-wheel-drive Turbo variant is one of the last of the 911s to receive a mid-life update, and major mechanical changes have improved performance in every area.
The new Turbo goes on sale in Australia in February 2010 – again in both coupe and cabriolet form – fitted with the model’s first all-new engine since it debuted in 1974.
A 3.8-litre six-cylinder replaces the 3.6 unit of the previous Turbo model that arrived in new-generation form in 2006.
Effectively based on the 3.8 used in the Carrera S, the new engine features direct fuel injection, a modified exhaust system, uprated intercooler and revised version of the twin-turbocharger set-up with variable vane geometry. (more…)

Japanese auto-giant Suzuki is all set to showcase its Swift with Plug-in Hybrid system as well as a SX4 FCV (Fuel Cell Vehicle) in the forthcoming auto show in Tokyo, Japan, the land of the rising sun. Only two non-Japanese manufacturers, Alpina and Lotus will also showcase their products in the sprawling event in the Japanese capital.
The Swift Plug-in Hybrid, as per manufacturer, is useful for the customers who travel around twenty km every day i.e. for short travels. The car, supporting 660cc engine, is equipped with a generator to charge the lithium-ion battery.
A domestic plug-in socket has been provided for recharging to check drop in the capacity level.

The SX4-FCV, currently undergoing testing in Japan, would also be introduced by Suzuki at the auto show. The five-door hatchback, first shown at the 2008 Paris auto show, is loaded with highly efficient fuel cells by GM and high pressure tank from Suzuki for increasing its performance and enhancing energy recovery during breaking.

Tata Motors to launch Manza sedan next week
Tata Motors, India’s biggest auto company, will look to strengthen its presence in the sedan segment with the launch of an all-new mid range sedan, Manza, next week. It will be priced in the range of Rs 5-7 lakh. The Manza is basically the sedan version of the indigenous hatchback, Indica Vista, launched by the company in August last year. The car is aimed at arresting the company’s dwindling performance in the sedan category.
Sources said Tata Motors will officially launch the car on October 14, though company dealers say it will be available in showrooms from October 10 onwards. The company has refused to comment on the launch.
Analysts say Tata Motors has timed the launch ideally, as it will allow them to cash in on the festive customers, as the launch will take place only three days before Diwali. (more…)
