Totally Improved 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt to Replace 2004 Cavalier
Just like the Cavalier, the new Cobalt will offer coupe and sedan configurations. The sporty Cobalt coupe, shown here in SS Supercharged trim, features four circular taillights inspired by classic Chevys from the past, including the Impala SS and, of course, the legendary Corvette. Chevys value proposition continues inside, where the much improved interior receives a standard CD player and driver information center.
The large diameter rims and rubber will be put to better use in the Cobalt than the outgoing avalier because of its much more capable Delta architecture and rigid body structure. The new Cobalt will carry forward with a 2.2-liter Ecotec 4-cylinder in base, LS and LT trim, plus a 2.4-liter version in the SS. The supercharged SS (shown) gets a 2.0-liter four, making 205 horsepower. The Cobalt will offer excellent rear seat room when available this fall.
General Motors to Sell Chevrolet Badged Daewoo Cars in Europe
Up until now, Corvette has been the only established Chevrolet model available in Europe. The Chevrolet Aveo, a rebadged Daewoo, is becoming a popular new model for Chevrolet in North America. Expect the official announcement of GMs global expansion of the Chevrolet brand name to be made at the Paris Auto Show next month.
Chevy Sets Prices for Upcoming Equinox Compact SUV
Showing up at dealerships this spring, the sharp looking Equinox will replace the slow-selling Tracker. GM says that the Equinox will set a new standard for compact SUV functionality and refinement.
Chevrolets 3-Door Kalos Points Way to a Sportier Aveo
The new three-door Kalos would compliment Chevys four-door notchback and five-door hatchback models Aveo if sold in America. Stylish bumpers and a unique sporty roofline are part of the three-door package, but the dimensions are the same. The Kalos three-door is the cornerstone of a new generation of General Motors in Europe.
With 40,000+ units sold in the first half of this year, the Kalos is definitely a popular choice amongst Europeans. The Kalos was designed and built by GMs Korean division, GMDAT, however it will be sold as a Chevrolet. Will we be seeing the three-door model in America? Most likely yes, as its Chevys would-be answer to the entry-level Toyota Echo hatchback.
A variety of engines will be available, including a 1.2-liter, 8-valve unit with 72 horsepower for starters, ramping up to a more powerful 1.4-liter, 16-valve with 94 horsepower. North American models, if sold here, will most likely offer the 103 horsepower 1.6-liter engine as standard equipment. The Kalos three-door interior features a two-tone dashboard, distinctive fabric and trim, plus a Chevy badge on the steering wheel.
Chevrolet Shows Off S3X Concept in Paris
General Motors GMDAT division, built out of the remnants of Daewoo, designed and built the S3X concept for Chevrolet from the ground up. When the S3X is produced, it will be Chevrolets first diesel vehicle in Europe, as well as one of the first diesel-hybrids if the General gives the green light to an alternative fuel version. The S3X offers a sporty look infused with 20-inch alloy wheels, twin cannon tail pipes and projection beam lamps.
Perforated leather, real wood and authentic metal trim – is this really a Chevrolet? The S3Xs 50/50 split third row folds flat, and is lined with metal runners for easy loading. The louvered panoramic glass sunroof retracts similarly to that on Pontiacs new G6.
Chevrolet Dubs Its PT Cruiser Fighter with HHR Nameplate
The HHRs design reaches back into Chevrolets heritage to the late 1940s high-roof truck, and to the current SSR pickup. The HHR will start production in the summer of 2005, and compete directly with Chryslers PT Cruiser.
At this time it will be the third vehicle to be based on the Generals Delta global small-car architecture, following the Saturn ION that came out last year, Chevrolet Cobalt due to replace the Cavalier, and Canadian only Pontiac Pursuit, that should be replacing the Sunfire. That makes the HHR a compact, and directly targeting the PT Cruisers market. Some question this strategy, as the PT hasnt exactly been growing in sales despite its overwhelming initial success.
One-Off Cadillac STS is Rolling Test Lab of Technology
General Motors Corp. rolled out a specially modified Cadillac STS on Monday, April 11. General Motors has equipped its rolling test lab vehicle, dubbed STS SAE100, with options that bring new meaning to the term “fully loaded. A 505-horsepower V12 engine might give Cadillac the edge in performance over some of its less endowed rivals.
The GM brand has no plans of putting the specially equipped STS up for sale. A total of fifty unique safety, powertrain, electrical, comfort and convenience enhancing technologies are crammed into the new Cadillac. GM spent more than $1 million developing the one-off Caddy.
